The Authors Live series will present Jojo Moyes, who will talk about his novel, The Giver of Stars. In the late 1930s, the Works Progress Administration developed a number of projects intended to provide employment opportunities for unemployed artists, writers, and craftsmen. One of those projects was the Pack Horse Library Initiative, in which mounted horsewomen picked their way along snowy hillsides and through muddy creeks with a simple goal: to deliver reading material to Kentucky’s isolated mountain communities. In The Giver of Stars, Moyes has brought to life the amazing, funny, adventurous stories of a few of these trailblazing women.
Moyes, the best-selling author of Me Before You, brings a story of Depression-era America, of five extraordinary women and their remarkable journey through the mountains of Kentucky and beyond. At times funny, at others heartbreaking, this is a richly rewarding novel of women’s friendship, of true love, and of what happens when we reach beyond our grasp for the great beyond. The book is soon to be a major motion picture.
The 7 pm event is free and open to the public. A 6 pm reception, by reservation only, is $30 per person and includes a copy of the book. For more information and reservations, call 214-523-2240 or go to www.hpumc.org. Books will be available for purchase and there will be a book signing following the program.
