Avant Chamber Ballet returns with an exciting triple bill of works from the 19th, 20th, and 21st century, all with live music.
The evening opens with George Balanchine’s "Concerto Barocco," one of the most iconic works by the choreographer and one of the most musical set to Bach’s "Double Violin Concerto." Next will be the world premiere of Katie Cooper’s "Appalachian Spring." It will feature Copland's 13 member orchestra suite arrangement and neo-classical dancing framing the story of Appalachia that Copland described when first creating this music. Closing the program is the grandeur and classicism of "Aurora's Wedding - Sleeping Beauty Act 3." This will be staged by Katie Cooper after the original Russian choreography and music from Tchaikovsky's score. The wedding features some of the most famous music and dancing in all of classical ballet with storybook characters visiting Aurora and her prince for their wedding.
