Avant Chamber Ballet will present Fascinating Rhythms: Gershwin, Piazzolla and Mason.

The evening opens with George Balanchine’s Who Cares?, an audience favorite which perfectly pairs Gershwin’s toe-tapping melodies with Balanchine’s genius choreography. The score will be performed with live chamber orchestra conducted by Brad Cawyer.

Next is Paul Mejia’s Cafe Victoria, a company premiere. The ballet uses Piazzolla’s alluring “Contrabajissimo” to create a moody and sensual scene at a “barre.”

Closing the program is the world premiere of Sisterhood, choreographed by Katie Cooper with music by local composer Quinn Mason. Mason is a 22-year-old local composer currently studying at SMU. He has had much critical and popular acclaim and is currently working on a commission for the Dallas Symphony Orchestra which will premiere in 2019.
