Bare Bones Shakespeare presents Titus Androgynous
Bare Bones Shakespeare will present Titus Androgynous. The actors in this company-directed production have the freedom to decide how they want to approach gender and violence in this unconventional approach to Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus.
The great Roman commander, Titus Androgynous, returns to Rome, having conquered the Goths. Upon discovering that the previous emperor has died, and that his eldest son Satiuninus has taken the throne Titus pledges his loyalty to the state, even to the point of disgracing his own children.
What follows is a series of bloody events featuring treason, rape, mutilation, murder, and eventually cannibalism that makes up what is believed to be Shakespeare’s very first tragedy. Bare Bones’ production will be set in an '80s glam rock universe where even the most horrific acts of violence are considered “totally rad, man.”
