Barry Whistler Gallery closes off the year with "Bird on a Blade," Dan Rizzie’s second solo exhibition with the gallery. This exhibition is the culmination of Rizzie’s collaboration with Grammy Award-winning musician Rosanne Cash. The two created a book featuring Cash’s song lyrics and Rizzie’s images, which will be available at the exhibition.
Rizzie’s multifaceted mixed-media pieces have established him as one of the most successful collage artists of the 20th century. His works most often contain layers of newspaper, paint, wax, and he often incorporates bold botanic imagery: a signature motif is graphic silhouettes of birds or flowers cast in front of abstract patterns. While his artistic sources are vast, Rizzie’s compositions are unified and explore traditional imagery in contemporary application.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through January 12, 2019.
