Barry Whistler Gallery will present Great Escapes, a group exhibition featuring work by 12 artists: Scott Barber, Burgess Dulaney, Jim Hodges, Lawrence Lee, Skeet McAuley, Ike Morgan, Ann Stautberg, Valton Tyler, Bob Wade, John Wilcox, Robert Wilhite and Danny Williams. The exhibition will explore the idea of “escapes” as in literally escaping from a dire situation or close call.

Some works such as John Wilcox’s Paradise drawing or Skeet McAuley’s Golf Course photograph have the ability to take you to another place in your mind or memory. Jim Hodges small wall sculpture makes use of his iconic flower imagery and reflective surfaces conjuring notions of nostalgia. Ann Stautberg’s hand-colored photograph and Danny William’s drawings evoke the mystery of shadows and vision in the night. Bob Wade’s hand-colored photograph of a motorcycle vest may take some viewers to a macho fantasy world, and Robert Wilhite’s wooden sculptures of nuclear bombs visit very real threats, past and present.

Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through March 8.
