Barry Whistler Gallery will present Digital-Distraction, a solo exhibition by John Pomara.

Pomara’s new paintings utilize a signature flatness in his application of oil enamel, combined with the visual detours of loose spray-painted lines and disjointed sections of color. The work focuses on themes of disconnection in Pomara's approach to composition.

This visual distraction arises from a perceived rift between the connectedness of a digital culture and its resulting social disengagement. Pomara uses the term distraction as the result of a history of abstraction in modern painting, but also as a comical twist on the distractions of popular culture. His paintings are situated directly between these ideas.

Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through November 29.
