Barry Whistler Gallery opens two new exhibitions, Otis Jones: New Work and Allison V. Smith: Levelland.
Jones makes work that deals with the physicality and processes of painting and its inherent materials. Working within non-objective abstraction, he relies on the elemental and meditative to explore the nature of painting as object. This exhibition will showcase some of Jones’ latest creations.
Smith's photographs are surreal at times in their lighting and composition, but anchored upon a stark realism. Through her lens, Smith’s images take on something profound, and something deeply Texan; the visual poetry of an artist who doesn’t just know the landscape, but has lived in it, and knows its taste. The latest photographs from Smith’s long-term investigative process will be featured in this exhibition, Levelland.
Following the opening reception, both exhibits will be on display through October 15.
