Barry Whistler Gallery will present Blue, Yellow, Red, featuring Ellsworth Kelly, Allison V. Smith, Ann Stautberg and John Wilcox.
The exhibition is inspired by a 2007 visit to Berlin’s National Galerie and the overwhelming impact of seeing Barnett Newman’s Who’s Afraid of Red, Yellow, and Blue IV, 1969-1970. This painting is in the museum’s permanent collection and is one of Newman’s seminal and final paintings. His confrontation with these primary colors continued a dialogue in which artists are still engaged today.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through April 25.
