Visual artist Matthew Brinston and South Dallas' urban farm Bonton Farms are throwing a neighborhood celebration as they unveil a large-scale community mural called “Bonton Blessing" (spanning 20' x 8'), conceptualized by Brinston and farm director Daron Babcock, to bring awareness to this social and economic issue and inspire positivity in the Bonton community.
Bonton Farms is a mission of H.I.S. BridgeBuilders created to make available local, organic produce in the low-income area of South Dallas. Bonton is located in a “food desert,” a term popularized by documentaries such as Waiting for Superman and Food Inc., which the USDA describes neighborhoods that have virtually no supermarkets. This team or urban missionaries has a plan: to provide healthy, affordable food, job opportunities and health education for the people of Bonton.
