In her latest body of work, local artist Lauren Cross is grappling with questions, materials and narratives that continue to inform her both consciously and subconsciously. As a means of reclaiming her Africanness, the artist constructs assembled works on brown paper bags and found surfaces, incorporating projections and installations. In this process, Cross pieces together her experiences of diasporian identity both lost and found, challenging notions of authenticity.
The exhibit will be on display November 19-December 14.
