Honduras Threads will present its second annual exhibition. The theme, "Side by Side," reflects the collaboration of Texas artists with Honduras Threads artisans.
The question put to 23 Texas artists: What to design to make a stand-out 20”x 20” pillow cover? The question to 28 Honduras Threads women artisans: Which of the artists’ black-and- white drawings inspire you to create knock-out, embroidered pillow covers? The answers will pair each artist’s drawing with four different interpretations by Honduran artisans.
Over the past 21 years, the Honduran artisans have made thousands of one-of-a-kind pillow covers, table runners, placemats, shawls and other luxury textiles. All by hand. The artisans’ work was chosen to be part of an exhibition in the U.S. Embassy Residence in Honduras. It has been part of an exhibition at the Old Jail Art Center in Albany, TX and at Craighead Green Gallery. The pillows have also been a focal point for hotel rooms in San Jose and Guanacaste, Costa Rica.
Participating artists include Susan Barnett, Chris Bingham, Brenda Bogart, Denise Brown, Julie Shunick Brown, Suzanne Kelly Clark, Brad Ellis, Paul Jarzemsky, Jessica Lendvay, Evelyn Luciani, Catherine MacMahon, Ann McIntyre, Margo Miller, Roberto Munguia, Celia Muñoz, Pam O’Krent, Richard and Marty Ray, Samantha Sano, Bert Scherbarth, Judy Vetter, Bruce Lee Webb, Debra Witter and Ron Womack. Original framed drawings will be auctioned.
