Chinese artists like the Ming dynasty literatus and theorist Dong Qichang (1555–1636) were never exclusively devoted to one medium. They were fluent in many forms of expression including poetry, calligraphy, and painting. This lecture explores contemporary artist and choreographer Shen Wei’s abstract painting as a dialogue with the literati tradition in China as well as contemporary art movements in China and around the world.
