Dallas Historical Society will present Melissa Prycer, Executive Director of Dallas Heritage Village, who will discuss the Woman Suffrage movement in Dallas and Texas. The Texas Equal Rights Association was organized in Dallas in 1893 and the association soon had several chapters across the state. In 1913, the Texas Woman Suffrage Association was reactivated. This later became the Texas Equal Suffrage Association. Several prominent women were involved in this cause including Mary Eleanor Brackenridge and Minnie Fisher Cunningham. Texas became the ninth state in the Union to ratify the 19th amendment. A corresponding pop of exhibit from the DHS collection will also be on display.
