Dallas Holocaust and Human Rights Museum presents "Black Cowboys: An American Story" opening reception

The American cowboy occupies a large place in our popular imagination, continuing as a major focus in pop culture, music, and movies. Cowboys are symbols of our country’s rugged individualism, freedom, and self-reliance. However, common depictions mostly ignore the role Black cowboys played in shaping the history of Texas and the American West.

At the opening reception, Ronald Davis II, Ph.D., curator of the "Black Cowboys" exhibition, explores the enduring legacy of these trailblazers and their influence on American culture, identity, and storytelling.

The exhibition will remain on display through April 18, 2027.
