In his 1991 book, Why Read the Classics?, the great Italian writer Italo Calvino lists 14 definitions of a classic, one of which might serve as the underlying purpose of Classics at Cour Regard: “A classic is a book which with each rereading offers as much of a sense of discovery as the first reading.” Through the Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture's unique presentation of the classics, they hope to animate a sense of both familiarity and newness in artistically diverse engagements of the best that has been written over the centuries.
