The Dallas Opera presents The Magic Flute
To open their 2019-2020 season, The Dallas Opera will present Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s final operatic masterpiece, The Magic Flute, in a dazzling Sir Peter Hall production designed for Los Angeles Opera by one of the most renowned satirical cartoonists of the 20th century.
Come to the enchanted forest, where surprises are everywhere, and magic reigns supreme. Here, the intrepid Prince Tamino is saved from a dragon by the mysterious Queen of the Night - then dispatched to rescue her daughter from Sarastro, the formidable high priest. Good and evil battle it out as two young people find their way to love and enlightenment in a musically luminous masterpiece that’s both funny and profound.
Music Director Emmanuel Villaume will conduct The Dallas Opera Orchestra in an 18th-century masterpiece that mixes popular song with show-stopping coloratura and a charming touch of glockenspiel. The Magic Flute will be performed in its original language, German, with English-language translations projected above the stage at every performance.
