Dallas Public Library presents Juneteenth Celebration

Juneteenth, also known as Juneteenth Independence Day or Freedom Day, is an American holiday that commemorates the June 19, 1865, announcement of the abolition of slavery in the state of Texas.

The event will feature choir performances by the Central Pointe Church of Christ Praise Chorale and the Seasoned Saints Community Choir of Dallas. Witness a modern dance performance by members of the Beckles Dancing Company and learn about the history of the holiday and the importance of celebrating its legacy with a special presentation by Emma Rodgers, curator of the Civil Rights Museum at the Martin Luther King Jr Community Center. George Keaton, founder of Remembering Black Dallas, will emcee. Refreshments and snacks will be served.
