eventdetail

To open the program, Mexican composer Gabriela Ortiz shows off Dallas Symphony Orchestra’s timpanist with her work Antrópolis. Then Gabriela Montero will perform her own “Latin” Piano Concerto, which honors the spirit of the spirit of Latin America.

The program concludes with world-renowned conductor Marin Alsop joining the DSO for Rimsky-Korsakov’s adventurous Scheherazade, which illustrates the fantastical tales of its Persian Queen. Evocative orchestral colors and motivic instrumental solos narrate the exotic journey of love, peril and intrigue inspired by the collection of medieval Middle Eastern folk tales “One Thousand and One Nights.”
