"It does have lots of horns, horns being quite the thing to express heroism," wrote Richard Strauss of his Ein Heldenleben, or A Hero's Life. Strauss' tone poem tells a tale of a hero, his battles, victories and the end of his life. Yefim Bronfman returns to the DSO performing Brahms' Piano Concerto No. 1, the first large-scale orchestral composition of Brahms and a fitting complement to the Piano Concerto No. 2 heard in the 13/14 season.
