Dallas Children's Advocacy Center will present the 8th Annual Appetite for Advocacy Luncheon, which highlights the importance of education and child abuse awareness in the community. The luncheon will feature Kevin Mulcahy, an Assistant U.S. Attorney in Detroit and a survivor of sexual abuse at the hands of his childhood soccer coach.

When Mulcahy was just 9 years old, his coach used his position of leadership and power to systematically groom and ultimately sexually exploit him. Mulcahy will discuss the details of his coach’s manipulation, betrayal and abuse as well as his complicated journey to healing. He will also address the unique challenges of being on both sides of the table as victim and prosecutor. Now a father to young children himself, Mulcahy will offer tangible lessons, shedding valuable insight on how we can work together to protect kids and educate parents and professionals to serve the best interests of victims. In sharing his story, Mulcahy gives a voice to countless others who have suffered in silence at the hands of adults they knew and trusted.

Proceeds from the event will support the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center’s work in improving the lives of abused children in Dallas County and providing national leadership on child abuse issues by offering an innovative, multi-disciplinary approach to the investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse cases.
