The Dallas Institute of Humanities and Culture will be presenting the 12th Annual MLK Symposium, MLK’s Legacy: Issues of Social Justice in the 21st Century. This year’s event will focus on America’s progress in ensuring equality under the law and civil rights for all citizens.
Honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s achievement and legacy by extending the conversation on civil rights in Dallas-Fort Worth, this year’s MLK Symposium will feature keynote presentations by Jelani Cobb, Staff Writer at The New Yorker, former Director of the Institute for African American Studies at the University of Connecticut, and Professor of Journalism at Columbia University; and Alicia Garza, a social activist and one of the founders of the Black Lives Matter Movement.
Cobb and Garza’s keynotes will be followed by a panel discussion on the civil rights challenges facing us today comprised of Cobb, Garza, and several Dallas leaders.
