East Dallas Arts, a new community arts group, will be presenting its first production, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The production features a cast of middle and high school students ages 13-18 from schools including St. John’s Episcopal School, Woodrow Wilson High School, Parish Episcopal School, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, J.L. Long Middle School, and The Hockaday School.
The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee tells the story about an eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vying for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake.
