The Friends of the Dallas Public Library, as part of their ongoing efforts to raise awareness for the Dallas Public Library system, will a special evening featuring the incomparable Susan Orlean, journalist and best-selling author of The Orchid Thief, the basis of the film Adaptation, and Rin Tin Tin: The Life and The Legend. Her forthcoming book, The Library Book, shares the timely story of the Los Angeles Public Library’s literal rise from the ashes of a fire in 1986.

The evening will feature cocktails, dinner, a celebration of Freda Gail Stern, a reading and an interview with Orlean, along with an opportunity to meet the author and purchase her books for autograph.

All proceeds from this event will provide direct support to the Dallas Public Library and its 29 branches and two bookmobiles by allowing the Friends to provide new technology, training and a range of special programs. These include the early children’s literacy program Every Child Ready to Read, English as a second-language (ESL) and GED classes, programming at BookMarks, the children’s library at NorthPark Center, citizenship classes and Mother Goose Story Time at the State Fair of Texas.
