The City of Dallas Public Art Program and the Dallas Center for Architecture will present a special lecture with artist James Carpenter to discuss his recent public art project, Light Veil, for the Cotton Bowl at Fair Park. The lecture, Light Veil: Integrating the Experience of Light, is part of Dallas Arts Week 2014.
Light Veil is an integrated façade for the Cotton Bowl Stadium at Fair Park. Vertical ribbons of stainless steel mesh surround the periphery of the stadium, delicately linking the Art Deco stadium entries while covering exposed bleachers. The 352 vertical sections are cinched along a structural beam at the midpoint of the façade, connecting the vertical and upper sections that extend to the top of the bleachers. The transparent stainless steel mesh creates a unique visual experience through the reflection and transmission of light.
