Liliana Bloch Gallery will present a new exhibition by Letitia Huckaby entitled Bayou Baroque, a site specific installation of her documentary project honoring the nuns at the Sisters of the Holy Familiy Mother House in New Orleans, Louisiana: an African-American congregation, founded in 1842 as servants to the youth, the poor and the elderly.  Their foundress Henrietta Delille broke with the traditional placage system of colored women being placed as concubines to wealthy white men in New Orleans and established the order. Huckaby, deeply touched and affected by the spirit of sacrifice and faith of these women is using her visual vocabulary evoking old master portraiture with parallel compositional weight.

Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through May 16.
