For the fifth year in a row, Nouveau 47 will present a spread of quirky, thoughtful, hilarious, pensive, all different, all new, all holiday plays. BYOB, bring all your friends, and expect the unexpected.
The Dallas theater group asked playwrights, both local and abroad, “What play have you always wanted to see about the holiday season... but never have?,” and called for new scripts that were “new, fresh, and a little off-beat.” The show, titled A Very Nouveau Holiday, is eight short plays about the holidays. In previous years only the work from local playwrights was selected, but N47 this year includes a work from N47 veteran playwright Jonathan Kravetz, who is now based in New York.
All eight 10-minute plays are a premiere of a new work. The plays include a range of topics: from hilarious Christmas public service announcements given by the Virgin Mary and Santa Claus himself, to more touching pieces about how the holidays can bring to the surface both familial love and familial conflict.
