The Orchestra of New Spain, celebrating its 25th season, will present Dallas with a Valentine weekend of stunning Flamenco. Partnering with the Dallas Flamenco Festival, Mejia Ballet International, DGDG and Dallas Ballet Folklorico, the essential dance form of Spain will be the center of this popular event.
Featuring Antonio Arrebola from Malaga, Cristo Cortes from Marseille, and Chayito Champion, based in San Antonio, with Dallas' own Delilah Buitron, the evening brings to life the international influences of poet Federico Garcia Lorca, composer Manuel de Falla, and painter Joaquin Sorolla whom you can see concurrently at the Meadows Museum. Falla's great Spanish drama, El Corregidor y la Molinera, will open the show. Lorca's Andalusian songs played by the Orchestra and danced by the company, tell the story. And all ends with a typical, improvised tablao for the entire cast. Family fare, unlike anything you've seen in Dallas, and a tribute to the long cultural tradition of all Hispanics, two evenings to savor, on this weekend of amor.
