PerformanceSW will present Ruins, a live performance by Cuban performance artist Carlos Martiel. Ruins discusses the extermination of indigenous populations and land by dominant industrialized European culture.
Martiel states, “Progressivism [has] buried native traditions, folklore and wisdom… This work proposes the body as a seed on which a possible new society is built. My body is made invisible [by the performance] but is not displaced.”
There will also be a free artist talk with Martiel at 7 pm on Wednesday, February 4 at Latino Cultural Center and a free moderated panel discussion with Martiel at 8 pm on Thursday, February 5 at CentralTrak.
