Ro2 Art will present artist Daniel Birdsong in his solo exhibition, The Raconteur. In the new exhibition, the artist uses multiple printmaking techniques to explore storytelling through intricate compositions and invented scenarios.

Birdsong began this series in the Spring of 2013, when he expected his first grandchild. His vision was to create book-plates for stories that he would tell his future granddaughter. The second print, Descent of Jubilee, was created in honor of her birth and displays his central figure (the Hare) playing a fiddle in celebration of her arrival. The artist continues in the exploration of storytelling using The Hare as the central figure, placing his characters in compositions which evoke various allegories and art historical references. The series progresses in a non-linear fashion while creating new narratives to take the viewer on a journey though wild environments. As a draftsman, the the artists uses a burin, etching acid, and various other tools to create a plate that is then used to make a small edition of prints.  Through this tradition, Daniel Birdsong is inspired by the works of Durer, Goya (specifically Los Caprichos) and by the dry-point works of Whistler. With regard to composition, Birdsong counts Bruegel the Elder, Picasso, and Warrington Colescott among is major influences.

The Raconteur will be on view at Ro2 Art from October 24 through November 28.
