Robert Lawrence Designs will present a group show with work by several regional artists focused on abstraction, geometrics, and botanical influence. "Geobotanical," features the work of Lee A. Hill, Cat Huss, Margaret McNiel, and Kelsey Nickerson.
Though diverse in media, application, and technique, "Geobotanical" is a survey of contemporary artists responding to the ideas of nature and hard-edged abstraction, while often addressing both. Lee A Hill, a Fort Worth based artist whose process is driven using the mark making of random natural elements placed, poured or sprayed on the canvas combined with a thoughtful hard-edged application of drafted and painted geometric patterns. Hill’s large-scale monochromatic works artfully combine organic forms with plotted geometric lines to reference an abstracted aerial view of imagined landscapes. In the same vein of abstracted reality, McNiel takes botanical images and paints squished and distorted forms of them on a saturated backdrop. Nickerson and Huss’ approach to painting is more intuitive, responding to formal qualities as well as themes of growth and chance. Drinks and light bites will be provided.
