SafeHaven will present the 23rd Annual Legacy of Women awards luncheon to honor 15 extraordinary women from throughout Tarrant County. The awards, benefiting SafeHaven of Tarrant County, celebrate these exceptional women who excel in their respective fields of arts, business, education, health and human services, and volunteerism.
The event will be highlighted by special guest speaker Jennifer Siebel Newsom, award-winning filmmaker, advocate for women and girls, and founder and CEO of Miss Representation.org. Newsom’s 2011 Sundance documentary film Miss Representation explores how the media’s inaccurate portrayals of women have led to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence.
Proceeds from the 2015 Legacy of Women awards luncheon support to victims who seek refuge at SafeHaven’s two domestic violence shelters. The emergency shelters, which are the largest and most comprehensive in Tarrant County, provide 24-hour care to families fleeing violent situations.
