Sammons Center for the Arts presents Sammons Jazz: 100 Years of Jazz

Beloved bassist James Gilyard, who served as Artistic Director of Sammons Jazz from 1999 to 2011, leads a first-rate ensemble in two sets of music from each of the major eras of jazz, from ragtime, Dixieland, swing, and bebop through the “kinda blue” and modal eras. With Gilyard on bass, the 100 Years of Jazz Band includes vocalists and narrators Peggy Lauren and Garry Williams, Quamon Fowler on sax, Chris McGuire on sax and trumpet, Dana Sudborough on vibraphone, Kelly Durbin on piano, Bill Lohr on piano and keyboards, and Andrew Griffith on drums.
