The Sammons Center for the Arts presents Sammons Jazz Artistic Director and Steinway Artist Arlington Jones in a virtual jazz double feature of his compositions.
The concert opens with a soul jazz experience by ’73 Swing, a group reminiscent of Jones’ favorite jazz piano trios led by Oscar Peterson, Erroll Garner, and Nat King Cole. With Jones on piano, Andrew Griffith on drums, and James Driscoll on bass, ’73 Swing signifies the year 1973, when the members of the group were born.
Cellist Dr. Jesús Castro-Balbi and percussionist Jorge Ginorio join Jones in the second set to perform Soul Unity Suite. Jones’ composition for piano, cello and percussion is a seven-movement fusion of jazz and classical music that represents all people coming together in harmony, compassion and understanding.
Tickets provide unlimited viewing through November 17.
