Sammons Jazz opens the spring 2016 season with two sets of very different styles of jazz, traditional and acoustic gypsy. World-class bassist Lynn Seaton leads his friends, a hand-picked group of gifted musicians — Pat Coil on piano, Gerhard Kraus on guitar, and Steve Barnes on drums — in the opening set, a performance of jazz standards where the bass is the main voice. Jazz fans will agree this set is a bass hit!

You don’t have to know that string theory is a theory of quantum gravity or that “manouche” is the term for a French gypsy to appreciate String Theory Manouche. Performing in the tradition of Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, this acoustic gypsy jazz ensemble features guitarists Kim Platko and Dean Bouras, violinist Mark Menikos, and bassist Marla Sporrer.
