Sammons Jazz honors some of the genre’s most admired artists at this year’s Artistic Director’s Concert. The event opens with The Brethren, featuring Sammons Jazz Artistic Director and Steinway Artist Arlington Jones and celebrated jazz vocalist Kevin Whalum. The duet perform music in the style of the duo Bobby McFerrin and Herbie Hancock. Whalum, who has been described as “Al Jarreau meets Bill Withers,” is known around the world for performing with his brother, famed saxophonist Kirk Whalum.

Jones returns to the stage in the second set with two accomplished musicians - drummer Andrew Griffith and bassist Braylon Lacy - to shine a light on the music of the extraordinary female jazz pianist, composer, and arranger Mary Lou Williams.
