Samuel Lynne Galleries will present artist and entrepreneur Rick Lazes’ exhibition The World is Bending. Exploring the fusion between materiality and composition, Lazes creates thought-provoking sculptures out of a variety of media, including melted plexiglass, wood, plaster, stainless steel, and marble. Lazes’ sculptures visually demonstrate the complexities of nature through a juxtaposition of fluid form and unconventional techniques.
In The World is Bending, Lazes morphs both natural and synthetic elements to create sculptures that challenge the conventionality of his chosen media. The exhibition will feature both Lazes’ reverse painted “Liquid Art” and bended wood sculptures. Lazes’ “Liquid Art” is comprised by swirling acrylic paints on the reverse side of plexiglass, which is then melted and shaped into the artist’s desired composition. Utilizing a patented technique of steam bending, Lazes is able to altar the elemental nature of wood in order to bend the viewer’s perception of reality into a new shape and conception of his creation.
Following the opening reception, at which Lazes will be in attendance, the exhibition will be on display through November 8.
