Scardello Artisan Cheese will host Max McCalman for a special Cheese and Wine 101 class and book signing. McCalman is the Director of Cheese Studies at NYC’s Institute of Culinary Education and is a Maître Fromager in the Guilde Internationale des Fromagers Saint-Uguzon. He is a James Beard award-winning author of Cheese, a Connoisseur’s Guide to the World’s Best; Mastering Cheese; The Cheese Plate; and McCalman’s Swatchbook of Cheese and Wine Pairings.

McCalman is also the owner of Max McCalman’s Cheese & Wine Pairing App on iTunes and is a frequent judge in cheese competitions in North America and Europe. He serves on the Board of Directors of the American Cheese Society and is a founding member of the organization’s Certified Cheese Professional program.

McCalman has a unique, fun and interactive way that he conducts cheese and wine tastings. At the event, McCalman will first introduce the fundamental principles of food and beverage pairings and then patrons will have the opportunity to apply these fundamentals while tasting a variety of wines and cheeses. McCalman will explain how to use a score sheet so patrons may “find” their palate better. After learning how to use the score sheet, some nuances in the wines and cheeses may be picked up that may not have been noticed before.

He also will answer questions about cheese and nutrition - the topic of his next book. McCalman will be signing copies of several of his books, which will be available for purchase at the event.
