The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza has commissioned local composer, Jesus J. Martinez, to create a new piece of music that draws from the Museum’s Oral History collection, as well as historic films and photographs from the Museum’s collections and other sources, to creatively reinterpret the story of President Kennedy from the 1960 presidential election through his assassination in 1963.
Echoes from a Memory features local musicians in an ensemble who will perform interactively with oral history interviews, selected historic footage and images, and contemporary voices from across the community projected onto multiple screens. The unique dialogue between the past and present incorporates underrepresented voices and allows the opportunity to reflect the myth of Camelot into the 21st century.
The immersive work is comprised of five chapters, or movements, titled “Echoes.” These Echoes detail five key events during Kennedy’s rise to the presidency, his administration and a fictionalized reflection of the Kennedy family’s dream of the future.
