Theatre Three will present The Kountry Girls, a world premiere musical by Ken Murchison, Andy Clendenen and Sonny Franks.
When you enter the theater you will be entering Mama’s Kountry Café, where you will find musicians playing traditional folk, country and bluegrass tunes. You might even be handed a menu or be told the daily specials by a couple of “waitresses.” All of the actors in The Kountry Girls play at least one musical instrument and the story unfolds as much in song as it does in dialogue.
The Kountry Girls is a folk musical following the age-old custom of taking traditional folk songs and modifying the arrangements and lyrics. American country music evolved from rural folk songs where this art form was enjoyed in its most basic and spontaneous form. These humble roots are the spirit of The Kountry Girls. The timeless themes of economic hardship, enduring love, redemption and family struggles are the fabric of this sweet story told through adapted folk music.
