As part of their Fall 2013 Salon Series, Turner House will host Catherine Cuellar, who will present “Notes on the Arts District: New Directions for Dallas.” Cuellar, executive director of the Dallas Arts District, will discuss the history of the Arts District and its value as a resource for the region. Since the Dallas ISD opened Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 1976, the district has grown to be a cornerstone and catalyst for creative vitality in the region. Cuellar, a longtime journalist and arts advocate, previously worked for The Dallas Morning News, KERA and PegasusNews.com; was the founding executive director of La Reunion; and served as a City of Dallas Cultural Affairs Commissioner under Mayors Leppert and Rawlings. Her Dallas family roots run deep, from Oak Cliff to Fair Park and downtown Dallas.
