Undermain Theatre will present The Fairytale Lives of Russian Girls.
Once upon a time (2005), in a faraway land (Russia), 20-year-old Annie knocks on the door of a distant family relation to take some business classes (and lose her American accent). What she discovers are three friends who show her the rapidly shifting world of modern Russia, where new wealth leads to political power, but Soviet echoes linger just under the surface.
In Meg Miroshnik’s darkly funny fairytale, Russian folk stories collide with the modern pitfalls awaiting young women. Armed with only their wits, an axe and a kick-ass closet of stilettos, the girls must combat a wicked witch, a ferocious bear and their own insecurities to ensure that the ending of their own modern fairytale is a happy one.
