Uptown Players will kick off its main stage season with the regional premiere of The Nance, the 2013 Tony Award and Outer Critics Circle Award-winning play written by Douglas Carter Beane.
The Nance recreates the naughty, raucous world of burlesque's heyday and tells the backstage story of Chauncey Miles and his fellow performers. At a time when it is easy to play gay and dangerous to be gay, Chauncey's uproarious antics on the stage stand out in marked contrast to his offstage life.
The production will star B.J. Cleveland as Chauncey, the role that won Nathan Lane a 2013 Tony Award and a 2013 Outer Critics Circle Award.
