Voices of Change, Dallas’ premiere contemporary music ensemble, presents a concert featuring the work La Razon del Viaje by local composer and SMU faculty member Dr. Lane Harder. La Razon del Viaje (“The Reason for the Journey”) sets the text of seven poems by Mexican poet Enrique Gonzalez Martinez. Dr. Harder set the work for a mezzo-soprano voice accompanied by piano and four percussionists.
Also on the program is a work by the late composer and cellist Alan Schulman. Rounding out the afternoon, the ensemble has programmed the delightful Animal Ditties by Anthony Plog as well as works by the compositional masters Heitor Villa-Lobos and Aram Khatchaturian.
Margaret Barrett, composer and former Director of Voices of Change will give a pre-concert talk with Dr. Harder beginning at 2 pm.
Students and educators receive free admission with a valid school ID.
