Wheelhouse is giving Dallas wordsmiths the chance to showcase their talents with the Boozy Bee, a five-week, late-night, adults-only spelling bee held every Friday.
Participants can relive their third-grade spelling bee glory days and win fun prizes. Spellers can ask for definitions, languages of origin, parts of speech, alternate pronunciations and a sentence using the word. Competitors can expect silly and crass commentary from competition host Isaac Young, a local actor, writer and clown, and mistress of ceremonies, and keeper of the book, Michelle Padgett, editor of The Joule’s online and print publication, 1530 Main.
The last speller standing each night will receive a $100 gift card toward their bar tab that night. The top three finishers each week will advance to the championship finals on May 31 for a chance to win a private beer dinner for six at Wheelhouse (valued at $500) and the taste of sweet victory.
