Zhulong Gallery will present RE-SURVEYING: Measuring Site, a solo exhibition by James Geurts.
Conceptual land artist Geurts draws out the subterranean and terrestrial rhythms of the earth. His explorations take form as major permanent public art commissions, temporary site-specific installations, as well as gallery-mounted works of his field research including photography, video and sculptures. This survey exhibition also features newly created work culminating from his month-long residency in Dallas.
Geurts’ practice has taken him the world over to investigate physical and psychological responses to the landscape. Making visible the subtleties that effect geologic phenomena, such as the tilted axis of the earth, the ebb and flow of tides, and awe-inspiring sunrises and sunsets, or as Geurts refers to them “earthrise and earthset,” his works offer contemplative moments for viewers to consider their place within the landscape.
Following the opening reception, the exhibit will be on display through October 11.
