Dallas Symphony Orchestra hits the road again with new season of DSO on the Go
In 2012, the Dallas Symphony Orchestra took its show on the road for a couple of well-received concerts in Allen and Southlake. Buoyed by that experience and a successful, expanded second season of DSO on the Go in 2012-2013, the orchestra will take things even further in its upcoming third season.
Starting Tuesday, September 3, in Terrell — where the DSO is visiting for the first time — the orchestra will put on 14 different concerts in the course of eight months. It will visit eight different cities, including Terrell, Allen, Southlake, Frisco, Denton, Mansfield, Park Cities and Dallas.
Each city, save for Terrell and Park Cities, is slated for at least two performances, although not all dates have been determined yet. The Dallas performance will take place at Cliff Temple Baptist Church in North Oak Cliff.
Most concerts will be led by other conductors, but music director Jaap van Zweden himself will be hand for the performance in Frisco on October 13, 2013. Many of the events will also feature DSO musicians leading seminars and master classes for student musicians at local schools.
Pieces performed during the series include Ravel's Tzigane; Mozart's Concerto No. 4 for Horn and Orchestra; Prokofiev's Classical Symphony, Gould's American Suite, and overtures by Rossini (The Barber of Seville) and Bernstein (Candide), among others.
Tickets for DSO on the Go concerts start at $19 and can be purchased online or by calling 214-692-0203.
