Hasa diga, everybody! The Book of Mormon to debut in Dallas as part ofWinspear's 2013/2014 season
Ever since The Book of Mormon debuted on Broadway in 2011, Dallas-Fort Worth theater fans have been anticipating the day the musical would make its way to these parts. Well, the wait is almost over.
The AT&T Performing Arts Center has announced The Book of Mormon will be part of the 2013/2014 Lexus Broadway Series season at the Winspear Opera House. The brainchild of South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, along with Robert Lopez, who co-created Avenue Q, The Book of Mormon is the story of two Mormon missionaries — one prim and proper, the other more of a screw-up — as they attempt to spread the word of God in Uganda. Full of ludicrously catchy and profane songs, the musical took the theater world by storm immediately, winning nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The exact dates have yet to be announced. There's also no word on who will play the the central two roles, although Gavin Creel and Jared Gertner currently play the parts originated by Andrew Rannells and Josh Gad.
