Mark Cuban opens up about his own bigotry
Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban is turning heads with his uncensored comments on bigotry and racism. Cuban, a wildly successful entrepreneur, is in Nashville for a tech startup conference hosted by Inc. magazine.
According to The Tennessean, Cuban told interviewer Eric Shurenberg to get ready for "full Mark Cuban." He proceeded to sound off on discrimination and his own prejudices.
"If I see a black kid in a hoodie and it's late at night, I'm walking to the other side of the street," Cuban said. "And if on that side of the street there's a white guy, bald head, tattoos everywhere, I'm walking back to the other side of the street."
Cuban later issued an apology on Twitter for the fact that his language could be seen as a reference to Trayvon Martin; he says that was not his intention. Cuban said stereotypes cause fear in everyone for one reason or another. "I try not to be hypocritical. I know that I'm not perfect. I know that I live in a glass house and it's not appropriate for me to throw stones."
He skirted questions about Donald Sterling, which may have made an even bigger impact than if he'd answered them. Check out an excerpt from the Inc. magazine interview here:
