Lakewood in Dallas dubbed one of America's best big-city neighborhoods
Living in a big city isn't without its challenges. One must balance a short commute with issues of safety and affordability. But according to a new report from CNN Money, Dallas is home to one of the best big-city neighborhoods in the country.
The study compared home prices, crime rates and quality of life offerings such as parks and shopping centers. Lakewood squeaked in at No. 9 on the 10-neighborhood list, earning points for the plethora of activities around White Rock Lake and the Art Deco-style Lakewood Theater.
With a median household income of $116,400 and a median home value of $392,900, Lakewood isn't the cheapest 'hood in town but CNN says "the prices are reasonable enough to attract young professionals and families." Lakewood also enjoys a very low crime rate and excellent elementary schools.
Other Texas cities earning spots on the list are The Heights in Houston, which came in at an impressive No. 4 in the country, and Alamo Heights in San Antonio, which claimed the No. 7 slot. New York City's Park Slope neighborhood took the first spot, with Silver Lake in Los Angeles and Lakeview in Chicago rounding out the top three.
